In this article we will go over how to choose the type of multiplicity setting for your options.  Sometimes you might wish to allow more than one selection from the same list of options. For instance, if a menu item came with a choice of two sides, and the list of sides from which to choose is the same for both choices, you can use the multiplicity settings to allow more than once choice from the list.

There are 3 possible modes for this setting: 


NOTE: The explanation below only relates to how the Kitchen Production Formulas would be calculated. 

  1. Show each option choice as a button - Divide item quantity by number of choices made
    - For example, if a customer orders 12 of an item and chooses 3 choices, each choice will be added with a quantity of 4. You may limit the number of options a customer can make.
  2. Show option as a dropdown - Add each choice with full quantity
    - When added to an order, each choice is added with the same quantity as the item ordered. When using this option, the dropdown list of options will be repeated multiple times, allowing the same option for each choice.
  3. Show option as a dropdown - Add each choice with full quantity
    - When added to an order, each choice is added with the same quantity as the item ordered. When using this option, the dropdown list of options will be repeated multiple times, allowing the same option for each choice.


Below are the steps on how to configure the multiplicity settings for an option.  


*Note this article does not show you how to create an option. There is another article to learn how to create.


1.  Click on the Admin tab - then click on the Menu Manager bubble and link





2 - On the left side click on the Menu - Category - Menu Item that contains the option you want to add multiplicity to.



3 - Next, click on the Options tab.



4 - Then click on the Option that you want to add a multiplicity to.



5 - Then click on the Multiplicity tab.




6 - A pop-up box will appear that will show the different setting options.  


Again, please NOTE: The explanation below only relates to how the Kitchen Production Formulas would be calculated. 



*NOTE: The default multiplicity type is to use buttons with 1 as multiplicity.


7 - The first option will be:  

  • Show each option choice as a button - Divide item quantity by number of choices made.
    - For example, if a customer orders 12 of an item and chooses 3 choices, each choice will be added with a quantity of 4. You may limit the number of options a customer can make.


When you select this option the pop-up box will appear.



  • 7-A - You have 3 choices (examples below):


        - 7-A.1. enter 3 to require making 3 exactly choices - the customer will be allowed to choose the number of choices that you determine here:

        - 7-A.2. enter 2-4 to allow picking 2, 3, or 4 choices.

        - 7-A.3. Enter 1,3,5 to require choosing either 1, 3, or 5 choices.

*NOTE that if a selection is missing a red box will appear till all selections have been made



8 - The second option will be:

  • Show option as a dropdown - Add each choice with full quantity

*Note that this can be set up the same as #7-A.


9 - The third option will be:

  • Show option as a dropdown - Add each choice with full quantity.
    - When added to an order, each choice is added with the same quantity as the item ordered. When using this option, the dropdown list of options will be repeated multiple times, allowing the same option for each choice.

10 - Once you have made your selection make sure to click Save.
