Rename the Catering Packaging Fee so the label shown to Customers better fits the type of order they are placing.

Overview

The default Catering Packaging Fee label may work well for some orders, but not all of them. For example, a delivery order may use that wording just fine, while a pickup order, room rental, or other order type may need a different label.

CaterZen lets you customize the name of the Catering Packaging Fee by order type. This gives you more flexibility so the fee label shown to Customers better matches the type of order they are placing.

These custom labels appear on Customer-facing documents such as tickets, invoices, quotes, and online ordering. Customers will only see the fee name and dollar amount. They will not see the percentage.

Important: The Catering Packaging Fee feature is only available for Customers using CaterPay, and the module must be enabled by the CaterZen team before you can access these label settings. See

Setting Up the Catering Packaging Fee if you haven't done that yet.

Customizing Your Fee Labels

Where to Find the Label Settings

  • Go to Admin > Global Settings > Catering Packaging Fee.
  • In the first section, click Customize Labels.
  • Under Custom Name for Catering Packaging Fee, click the expand button to reveal the full list of order types.

Setting Custom Labels by Order Type

You'll see a row for each order type in your account (delivery, pickup, room rentals, etc.). Each row has a text field where you can enter a custom name.

  • Locate the order type you want to rename.
  • Enter your preferred label in the text field next to it.
    • For example: set Pickup to "Catering Prep Fee"
    • Set a room rental order type (e.g., Valleywood Room) to "Room Rental Fee"
    • Leave any order type blank to use the default "Catering Packaging Fee" label
  • Click Save when you're done.

Tip: You only need to fill in labels for order types where the default name doesn't fit. Any order type without a custom label will automatically display "Catering Packaging Fee."

Where Custom Labels Appear

Once saved, your custom fee names show up in every customer-facing context:

  • Order Ticket — the fee appears with your custom name when the ticket is generated
  • Customer Invoice — the invoice line item reflects the custom label
  • Online Ordering front end — customers placing their own orders see the custom name during checkout (without the fee percentage)
  • Quotes — when you create a quote for a customer, the fee line item uses the custom label

Important: The fee percentage is never visible to customers on any of these documents. They'll see only the fee name and the dollar amount charged.

Updating Labels from the Ticket Template

You can also manage custom labels directly from the Ticket Templates area — useful if you're already in there setting up your order sheet layout.

  • In the Admin area, go to Ticket Templates and open the Order Sheet Layout for the relevant order type.
  • Locate the Catering Packaging Fee field in the layout editor.
  • Click on it to reveal the label customization option — it mirrors the same settings available in the main Catering Packaging Fee configuration screen.
  • Update the label and save.

Tip: Changes made in the Ticket Template label editor and changes made in the main Catering Packaging Fee settings sync to the same place — you can use whichever is more convenient.

FAQ

Q: Will changing a label affect orders that have already been placed?

A: Label changes apply going forward. Historical tickets and invoices that have already been generated will retain whatever name was in place when they were created.

Q: Can I use different labels for the same order type at different locations?

A: Not currently. Custom labels are set per order type, account-wide.

Q: Does the fee percentage appear anywhere on customer-facing documents?

A: No. Customers see only the fee name and the dollar amount. The percentage is only visible in the back end when you or your team are creating or editing an order.

Conclusion

With custom labels in place, the Catering Packaging Fee can be named in a way that better fits the type of order being placed. Whether you use a prep fee for pickup orders, a room rental fee for event spaces, or the default packaging fee for delivery orders, this gives you more flexibility and a more polished Customer-facing experience.
